Starlight

Often the composition process in my piano music starts from an idiomatic
idea. Starlight (2023) started from the materialisation of a recurring
improvisation since my teenage years based on soft repeated B major
scales, creating a mysterious, calm and meditative atmosphere. I called it
Starlight to reflect the music’s calm and celestial quality. The title
conveys two aspects of this work: firstly, a glistening starlight from afar
(the mysterious, magical and calm passages); and secondly the sheer
magnitude of the stars. An underlying musical idea is the pain of two
clashing notes.
