Lament

Based on a painting by Armine Kalentz entitled ‘Great Requiem’, ‘Lament’
opens with a solemn and mournful introduction, conjuring a sense of loss and
longing. The opening motives accompanied by a drone, inspired of the lines
and contours found in ‘Great Requiem’, establish a modal musical language
that will be developed and expanded throughout the composition. As the
composition progresses, the melodic lines of the two instruments intertwine,
expressing a range of emotions from profound sadness to glimmers of hope.
